Beach Waves
Salt-air texture · easy
Beach waves are loose, irregular bends with a matte, breezy texture — the pattern salt water and wind put into hair, recreated on purpose. Unlike polished curls, the waves vary in size and direction, and the ends stay straight. The whole point is looking unstudied.

Who it suits
Nearly universal, which explains the popularity — soft bends around the face flatter round, square, and heart shapes without committing to a curl. Easiest on natural 2a-2b wave; straight hair needs a wand or a salt-spray scrunch. Very curly hair is better served working with its own pattern.
On wavy hair: salt spray, scrunch, air-dry. On straight hair: a ten-minute wand session that lasts two or three days. The wave itself asks nothing between wears.
Beach Waves — common questions
How do you get beach waves overnight without heat?
Braid damp — not wet — hair into two loose braids, or twist it into buns, and sleep on it. Two braids give a tighter wave; one gives a softer bend. In the morning, shake out, don't brush, and finish with a light texture spray.
Why do my beach waves fall out in an hour?
Usually the hair was too clean, the sections too big, or the waves weren't cooled before you touched them. Prep with texture spray, use smaller sections, and let each bend cool in your palm for a few seconds — heat sets the shape as it cools.
