The right cut starts with your face shape

Your face is about one and a half times longer than it is wide, with a forehead slightly wider than the jaw. Cheekbones sit at the widest point, and the jawline curves gently instead of angling. If no single feature dominates when you look straight into the mirror, you are probably oval.

Width and length measure close to equal, with full cheeks and a soft, rounded jaw. The widest point sits at the cheeks rather than the cheekbones, and the hairline tends to curve. Compare the distance across your cheeks with hairline to chin; if the numbers nearly match, you are round.

Forehead, cheekbones, and jaw measure nearly the same width, and the jaw is the giveaway: it angles sharply below the ears instead of tapering. Face length is close to face width. If your jawline looks squared-off in a straight-on photo, this is your shape.

The forehead and cheekbones are the widest part of the face, then everything narrows to a small, sometimes pointed chin. Many heart shapes have a widow's peak at the hairline. If your face resembles an inverted triangle when you pull your hair back, this is your category.

Cheekbones are clearly the widest point, while both the forehead and the jaw are narrow, and the chin often comes to a point. Check a straight-on photo: if the face is widest at eye-to-cheek level and tapers in both directions from there, you are diamond.
