A high and tight clips the back and sides to skin or a #1 all the way up past the temples, leaving only a small patch of short hair on top, usually a #3 to #4, sometimes slightly blended at the edge. It comes straight from military grooming standards and looks it.
Who it suits
This cut hides nothing, so it rewards strong jaws, a good head shape, and oval, square, or diamond faces. Any hair type works because so little is left. If your crown is thinning, the short top blends it in; if your face is round or soft, expect the cut to emphasize that.
No styling at all, but the contrast disappears fast. Clippers every one to two weeks keep it regulation-crisp.

What's the difference between a high and tight and a buzz cut?
A buzz is one length everywhere. A high and tight uses two: near-skin on the sides taken high up the head, and a slightly longer patch on top. The two-length contrast is the whole point, so it reads stricter and more deliberate than a buzz.
What is a high and tight recon?
The more extreme version. The shaved zone climbs even higher and the top patch shrinks to a small landing strip, sometimes with a shaved ring separating it from the sides. It is a statement cut; most guys asking for a high and tight want the standard one.
