A drop fade wraps the head like a regular fade but dips, dropping in an arc behind the ear down toward the nape. That curve leaves more weight at the crown and back of the head. Most barbers run it skin to a #2, following the natural slope of the skull.
Who it suits
The extra crown weight rounds out flat spots at the back of the head, which is the quiet reason barbers suggest it. It flatters oval, round, heart, and diamond faces and shines under curly or textured tops. If your head is already round at the back, a straight mid fade may sit better.
Expect a barbershop visit every two to three weeks; the arc loses its shape as the short zones grow. No daily work below the crown.
