Comb Over

The modern comb over is a deliberate style, not a disguise: two to four inches on top swept cleanly across the head from a defined part, usually over a mid fade or taper. Many barbers add a hard part to anchor the line. It is the side part's sharper, more sculpted cousin.
Who it suits
The strong diagonal flatters round and square faces, and the low, sideways volume suits oblong faces that should avoid height. Straight and wavy hair combs over cleanly. It needs a decent front hairline to anchor the part; heavy recession at the corners will interrupt the line.
The fade wants a reset every two to three weeks, and the hard part disappears as it grows. Daily comb and product time is a couple of minutes.

What's the difference between a comb over and a side part?
They overlap, but a side part usually means the classic scissor cut with modest sides, while a comb over means more top length swept further across, often over a fade with a hard part. Ask for the one that matches the photo you bring, since terms vary from shop to shop.
Does a comb over hide thinning hair?
A modern comb over can soften early thinning at the part or crown because the sweep layers hair over itself. What it cannot do is cover real bald areas; the old-fashioned long-strand comb over fools nobody. If loss is advanced, a shorter cut is the stronger move.
