Messy Bun
Undone · effortless
A messy bun is controlled collapse — hair looped loosely at the crown or nape, pieces pulled out, texture everywhere. The good version is quietly engineered: it needs grip, deliberate looseness, and a couple of strategic pins to look accidental in the right way.

Who it suits
The most democratic updo there is: soft volume and loose face pieces flatter round, square, and heart faces that tight styles expose. Texture helps enormously — second-day hair, waves, or a shot of dry shampoo. Freshly washed fine hair slides apart, and very short layers will escape.
Ninety seconds on a good day. No trims, no heat — the style actually prefers hair you haven't just washed. Re-loop it midday without a mirror.
Messy Bun — common questions
Why does my messy bun always fall out?
Almost always: hair too clean and no anchor. Add texture first — dry shampoo or salt spray — loop the bun with the elastic's last pass only halfway through, then set two or three bobby pins where the bun meets your head. Slippery hair needs grip, not more elastic.
Is a messy bun okay for the office?
A deliberate one, yes — looped at the nape or mid-height with clean face pieces, it reads relaxed but composed. The teetering top-of-head tower with day-three texture is more of a weekend look. The difference is mostly neatness at the hairline.
